Funding guides

These guides compare what lenders publish about who they lend to: minimum credit score, time in business and revenue, read off each lender's own site. Glisten isn't a lender and doesn't predict decisions. We show published requirements, with sources, so you can see where you stand before you apply, plus how SBA loans work and what a lender must tell you if it says no.

What do lenders require for a business loan?

Among the lenders we checked that publish one, minimum credit scores run from 400 to 650. OnDeck and Bluevine both ask for a 625 FICO and a year in business. The table further down lets you filter by your own numbers.

Is an SBA loan right for my business?

SBA loans come from banks and other lenders, not the SBA itself. A 7(a) loan goes up to $5 million, a 504 loan up to $5 million ($5.5 million for small manufacturers) for buildings and equipment, and a microloan up to $50,000.

What happens if my loan application is turned down?

Regulation B covers business credit. A business with $1 million or less in revenue gets notice within 30 days and a right to the specific reasons.

Frequently asked questions

What credit score do I need for a business loan?

It depends on the lender. In our lender requirements table, published minimums run from 400 to 650. See business loan requirements.

How much can I borrow with an SBA loan?

Up to $5 million with a 7(a) or 504 loan ($5.5 million for small manufacturers with a 504) and $50,000 with a microloan. See SBA loans explained.

Does a lender have to explain why it turned me down?

The lender has to notify you. Businesses with $1 million or less in revenue get reasons or a notice of the right to them; larger ones get written reasons if they ask in writing within 60 days. See business loan denied.

Does Glisten make loans?

No. Glisten isn't a lender and doesn't make credit decisions. We show what lenders publish, with links to where they publish it.
